A restored Corsair is always a thing of beauty!

Modeler's View

As stated earlier, Duane is an avid RC Modeler and shoots detail shots from the modeler's perspective, something that benefits those working in plastic, wood and resin modeling as well. Some modelers will detail their kits right down to the color markings on the helmet left in the cockpit, a pair of gloves, sunglasses, fuzzy dice in the window and a the rolex worn by the pilot. Detail shots like this are also duplciated within the controls. The models are museum quality, worth hundreds to thousands of dollars, and often take years to build until completed.

Duplication

A modeler will duplicte a picture like this to include the nuts and bolt heads, the strap on the control tube above, the threads on the link just to the left of the picture and below the control tube, and the access hole along with the zinc chromate seen to the right within the flap.

Zinc Chromate

For the novice, zinc chromate is the color of the tube in the center of the picture and is considered a light yellow green, though darker greens are labeled zinc chromate just the same. The paint is an anti-corrosion feature in the controls and control passage ways of an aircraft. Likewise, zinc chromate is also a form of primer.

When it comes to controls...

...beneath that paint, you could be looking at steel, stainless steel, aluminum, Titanium and Magnesium, the latter known for its light weight, but also known for its brittle features and ability to ignite and burn white hot during a fire.

Inboard Flaps

Seen on the starboard side, trailing edge of the Corsair, the flaps of the Corsair feature the same inverted gull wing bend as the wing itself, to provide for conformity during level flight.
