Galleries by Duane Hover and Gerard Walczak

Perhaps...

The registration NX47DA shows the aircraft to be owned by a Henry "J" Schroeder III, with serial number 38955616, built in 1944, and currently with the Midwest Air Museum, of Danville, Illinois. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney R2800 series motor.

The "J" could be for Joseph...we shall see! <G>

Hun Hunter XVI

s/n 33955605 was delivered to the Brasilian Air Force as an F-47. Serving until 1953, the aircraft was put on display with the Brasilian AF initially, then a Brasilian Aerospace Museum before being sold to the U.S. The aircraft arrived initially in Santa Monica, passed through Chino, and wound up in the hands of Neal Melton, of Luttrell, TN. The aircraft was restored to airworthy condition in Rialto, California, and made its first flight since restoration on August 3, 1999.

No Name

A Republic P-47D Thunderbolt sans name and nose art taxis in for Thunder Over Michigan.

Bare Metal

Minimal markings for this P-47D Thunderbolt which is representative of a WWII fighter freshly delivered from the states, before nose art and name are applied. Many such aircraft were rushed into combat, gaining their names after battle, if they survived their introduction into Air War Europe.

It has been said...

That you can tell a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot by an overdeveloped arm...whichever one he utilized to hold the control stick!
